I know there are many concerns about the environmental impact of new housing, but Olympia has a lot of little streams, puddles, watersheds, etc and it really limits, or at least make things difficult to build on.

Our house that was built 26 years ago sits on a former puddle that was filled in. As people continue to have children and grandchildren, there will continue to be a need for more housing. The I-5 corridor is predicted to be completely built up in years to come. As the capital of WA, Olympia is also home to a lot of good state jobs and people need housing. I’m so glad that I have a house instead of a condo or townhouse as I need some gardening space. When we were looking for a house to buy, I didn’t even want to live in new construction as the lots were too small, 0.1 acres. Our 0.21 acre lot is just right, efficient use of space without feeling like I’m living on top of my neighbors. And, it affords a little more privacy.

Let’s not forget that the city is also trying to preserve green space buy doing things like buying up the LBA Woods property and trying to add more parks.

I too, am concerned about our environment. I didn’t have any children, for multiple reasons, but I often wonder that when people do have children, do they ask themselves how will this impact our planet? I’ve noticed that most people do not, but when development impacts their lives, they complain.

Just some food for thought.

Bev TorgusonBev Torgusonnoreply@blogger.com
